(Diners Club) magazine cover features grand old traveller Eric Newby. Inside
spread features Anita Roddick (Body Shop), Derek Nimmo (snuffed), and Roddy
Llewelyn (gardener and one time plaything of Princess Margaret, -tenth in
line to the throne and first in line to the drinks trolley). I once photographed
Roddy's father Harry Llewelyn by the grave of Foxhunter, his horse that
won the Olympics on the year I was born.
Roddy's reading my copy of Mother's Lustful Urge, a smutty little tome I
found outside of my studio, which I was told by a reliable source was a
collectors item of pornography. During moments of boredom (waiting for film
from the lab, people to arrive etc.), we would read out extracts from this
little gem and be in pain laughing over how much filth can be compressed
into so few paragraphs, with very little room (or necessity) for any story.
It was like all those illicit paperbacks you discovered in your teen years
(Fanny Hill, Portnoy's Complaint, Couples, etc.), and scoured the pages
for the dirty bits, -only with this one you didn't have to. You'd have to
search all day for a smut-free paragraph, -there was no respite! A great
read in anyone's book...
